Nursing OutcomesDear Colleague: We did it! Bronson Methodist Hospital is now a Magnet accredited hospital. We have attained what only five percent of hospitals in the U.S. have achieved — Magnet designation. Bronson pursued Magnet recognition for several years on our journey to be a national leader in healthcare quality and our focus and determination were rewarded. In fact, it is because of the Magnet criteria that Bronson created this annual “Celebrating Nursing Excellence” booklet. We wanted to formalize a way to share Bronson nurses’ impact on clinical outcomes and their professional accomplishments. The first booklet was 52 pages and over the years it has grown. The page count has increased just as Bronson nurses’ involvement in evidence-based care, research and professional practice has increased. While Bronson nurses have many reasons to celebrate for 2009, we will continue to raise the bar in 2010. Patients and families remain at the center of our work and providing excellent healthcare services is our mission. Nationally, the healthcare debate continues, yet Bronson is moving forward to improve the quality of care in this community. We will continue to follow evidence-based practices and engage, partner and advocate for our patients. Working as a team with our patients, other providers and each other, we can deliver optimal care for every patient, every time. Every nurse plays a pivotal role in Bronson’s quest for quality. I’m especially excited about this “Celebrating Nursing Excellence” booklet because this year each nursing shared governance council gathered and reported out for their individual unit. This is truly a collection of what you and your colleagues feel we did best in 2009. Thank you for what you have accomplished in 2009 and what you will achieve in 2010. Sincerely,
Neil A. Johnson, MSA, BSN, BA, RN Vice President, Patient Care Services Chief Nursing Officer
