Come join the fast-paced environment of the Trauma & Emergency Center at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Bronson has more than 20 years of experience in the treatment of critically injured adults and children, and has been an ACS-verified Level I Trauma Center since 1989. In fact, Bronson has the only Level I Trauma Center in southwest Michigan for adult and pediatric patients.  Nurses in the Trauma & Emergency Center practice in a facility with all-private rooms and a design that incorporates the latest technology with a healing environment.

Bronson’s Trauma & Emergency Center is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team composed of physicians, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, paramedics, patient-care assistants, child life coordinators and administrative staff; and supported by medical social workers and registered-nurse case managers. The 50-bed outpatient unit is dedicated to the care of illnesses and injuries that may be life-threatening.

The Trauma & Emergency nursing staff at Bronson provides support for the following areas:

  • Trauma & Emergency Center – 24-hour-a-day treatment in life-threatening emergency situations, including car crashes, broken bones, severe burns, falls, accidents, head injuries, signs of heart attack or stroke, and deep, penetrating wounds. More than 80,000 visits take place annually in Bronson’s Trauma & Emergency Center.
  • Outpatient Chest Pain Emergency Center (CPEC) – the area's first and only accredited outpatient Chest Pain Emergency Center
  • Stroke and Neurovascular Center – a JCAHO-certified Primary Stroke Center within the Trauma and Emergency Center offering a Rapid Response Stroke Team and specialized protocols for tPA administration to care for patients with signs and symptoms of stroke.
  • Regional Burn Center – Bronson is the only hospital in southwest Michigan that provides comprehensive care and treatment for adult and pediatric burn patients. Hyperbaric treatment is part of this service.
  • ProHealth Management Services® – an occupational health service providing hundreds of area businesses with employee medical services, including employee physicals, physical therapy, occupational therapy, ergonomic studies of the workplace, and customized wellness programs.
  • Pediatric Emergency Service – as southwest Michigan’s only Children’s Hospital, Bronson serves the region with 24-hour-a-day specialized pediatric trauma services backed by a full-service Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

A nurse manager, a trauma program manager, nurse educators, unit coordinators and a clinical-nurse specialist within the department support professional nursing practice 24 hours a day. They collaborate with critical care staff and management to develop and implement programs to enhance professional nursing within the Trauma & Emergency Center. Some key features include:

  • Individualized orientation based on nursing experience
  • Educational opportunities featuring learning labs and clinical experiences to enhance the orientation program
  • Mentorship program with experienced staff assisting new staff with clinical development and assimilation into the work environment
  • Participation in a delivery model of a registered nurse/paramedic/licensed practical nurse and patient-care assistant, led by a registered-nurse team leader
